reading
I tore through Caitlin R. Kiernan’s Agents of Dreamland this week. I saw it mentioned on Twitter (thanks, Dave!), then saw it the next day on our new bookshelf at the library. It was a sign! I don’t want to spoil anything about this book, but if you like sci-fi/horror and non-linear storytelling, check this out (here’s an excerpt). This book also got me excited to check out another of Tor’s recent novellas, River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey. HIPPOS IN AMERICA, Y’ALL.
watching
Ian & I are down to the last four episodes of Breaking Bad. To counteract the intensity, we’ve been watching the original MST3K episodes on Netflix before bed. We find a lot of comfort in the zaniness. This week we’re particularly loving Future War & The Pumaman.
listening
Every other Friday night, Ian plays music with his buddies. He’s a drummer & music is a huge part of his life. He usually controls the stereo, so when I’m home, I’m probably listening to Ian music (which is cool because he has great taste). The Friday nights when he’s gone, however, is Meghan time. I get take-out that he doesn’t like (hey, garlic chicken & egg rolls). I watch shows he’s not into (the new MST3K). I go to bed at 8:00pm & read until he gets home around midnight. And sometimes, like this past Friday, I play music that I like & sing along to it. Real loud. I do this in bed, playing music videos on my phone, which makes it better, I think. My most recent bed sing-along jams were The Eurythmics’ “There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)” & my forever favorite, ELO’s “Telephone Line.”
